with reverence and grace.

Kari Schein’s teachings expand the interdisciplinary connections between asana, mantra, and sound medicine.

It is her life’s work to create experiences that tune students back to their center through voice, movement, mantra, and breathwork.  Her holistic approach asks us to remember our connection to the cycles of season, nature, and each other. From the West, she now lives in Baja California’s magical pueblo of Todos Santos, where she teaches Katonah yoga, mentors yoga teachers, writes music, and stewards community voice activation.

Kari has been studying and practicing yoga for over 35 years, with certifications in Hatha, Nidra, Meditation, and Breathwork.  She is also certified in the unique and specialized Katonah™ Yoga Theory, which layers classical yoga with Traditional Chinese Medicine and sacred geometry to create a distinct style of braiding body, breath, and spirit. These practices distill into a living teaching practice to offer experiences that are simultaneously seasonal, experimental, exploratory, and accessible. Always incorporating elements of sound, expect to be lulled into savasana with sound medicine and mantra...braiding together body, breath, sound and spirit.

Kari is also a teacher of teachers. She has guided students through yoga teacher trainings, mentorship spaces, and continuing education, supporting them in developing their own voice, language, and approach to practice.  She is currently on faculty for yoga teacher trainings and leads mentorship spaces for practitioners ready to deepen their understanding and refine their craft. Her work emphasizes discernment, structure, and lived experience, helping teachers move beyond imitation and into something more personal and sustainable.

Before this chapter, Kari spent over two decades as an educator, including years in Montessori classrooms and school leadership. That foundation still lives in her teaching, clear, attentive, and grounded in the belief that learning happens through experience, not performance.

Her work now is a continuation of that path, creating spaces for people to explore, to feel, and to remember themselves in a more connected way.

Education & Lineage

Certified in over 500 hours of yoga teacher training, Pilates Mat, Restorative and Yoga Nidra, Kari is continuously fortifying her studies of asana, philosophy, and devotional practices. Kari is also certified in the specialized Katonah™ Yoga Theory, which layers principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine and sacred geometry. This is the secret sauce of her unique teaching method, which braids body, breath and spirit.

Taken by the healing powers of vibrational instruments, Kari has studied deeply with Marcelo Mansour, Silivia NakkachSri Kala, Peia Luzzi, J Brave, and Giselle World, and leads singing groups in Baja Sur, California. Kari holds full certification from the International Sound Healing Association.

Kari has also spent many years as an educator in schools, including over 20 years leading Montessori classrooms and as an administrator. She brings that essence of play to every class she teaches.

Kari's commitment to her students is unparelled. Her work is deep and strong and body changing. I so apprecite her work curating music and the silent disco headphones. As a somatic body awareness teacher myserlf, I feel it is the perfect compliment to her yoga asana classes. Kari's class takes me to a place far beyond becasue it connects my body, mind, heart and soul.
